Philippines announce star-studded rosters for FIBA 3x3 World Cup

MANILA (FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018) - The Philippines selected some of the biggest talents in the country for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018, which will be staged on their home soil on June 8-12.

The men's team will feature 4 professional basketball stars in the Philippines, with Roger Ray Pogoy, Stanley Pringle, Troy Rosario and Christian Standhardinger.

The German-born Standhardinger was the second-best scorer for the Philippines at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017. Pogoy also featured on that basketball team and ranked 5th in scoring.

Rosario also represented his country internationally in basketball competitions, including a gold medal at the SEABA Championship in 2017.

The US-born Stanley Pringle will get a chance to play for the Philippines for the first time at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup.

Rosario is the only player with significant FIBA 3x3 experience. He led team Manila North to the final of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2015. To this date, his team's 6th place finish is the best performance by a Filipino team on the FIBA 3x3 professional tour.

The Philippines will face Brazil, Canada, Mongolia and Russia in a very competitive Pool C.

The women's national team will star Jack Danielle Animam, Afril Bernardino, Gemma Miranda and Janine Pontejos. All four have represented the Philippines in international basketball competitions, most recently at the 2017 FIBA Women's Asia Cup. Pontejos and Bernardino were 2nd and 3rd in scoring on the team, that finished 7th overall.

In the women's category, the Philippines will meet Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands and Spain in a deadly Pool D.
