Competition Format

The FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League 2017 is comprised of 5 one-day events, which follow a standardized format:

The 6 participating teams are divided into two pools of three both in the men’s and the women’s category. The FIBA 3x3 Individual World Ranking is used to determine the teams’ pool seeding. The ranking points of each team’s 3 best players are added up. Teams are then ranked based on their total team ranking and seeded as follows:

Pool A : 1st, 4th, 5th
Pool B : 2nd, 3rd, 6th

Each team plays in a round-robin first round against their two respective pool opponents. The top two teams from each pool advance to a standard knockout round which starts at the semi-finals stage.

The pool standings and final standings are calculated according to the FIBA 3x3 rules of the game. If teams are tied, then the following criteria are taken into account:

In case teams are tied, the tie-breakers are as follows:

  1. Most wins (or win ratio in case of unequal number of games in inter-pool comparison);
  2. Head-to-head confrontation (only taking win/loss into account and applies within a pool only);
  3. Most points scored in average (without considering winning scores of forfeits).

If teams are still tied after those three steps, the one(s) with the highest seeding win(s) the tie-breaker.

Teams earn tour standing points after each event. There is no final; the best ranked teams (men and women) in the tour standings at the end of the 5th event are declared FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League 2017 winners.
